LA 2212 349 (Lab)
Spring 2025: students in LA 349 (Advanced Planting Design) created designs for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Fire Station, planting beds. I coordinated the outreach, site visit, and base map creation. Instructor Kevin Grochau (the other lab instructor) and I worked with the students to guide them in planting design creation for the fire station.
Site visit: first, students explored the Chumash Tribal Nursery. The lead environmental technician (Chumash Environmental Office) gave a nursery tour and taught extensively on native plant use. At the fire station, students surveyed the site for planting design and spoke with fire chiefs.
Final students designs were given to the fire station staff, who chose the first project’s plan (listed below) with which to install.
