LA 4416 (439): Planting Design
Term: Winter 2024
My experience in planting design guided students in LA 439: Planting Design. Students learned how to create illustrative and construction document plans, schedules, and details for several site types: commercial, urban streets and plazas, parks, restoration sites, and children’s gardens. Students installed plants to learn planting technique. They created a basemap for the Los Osos Valley Nursery sign beds before creating a planting plan.
Students collaborated with Cal Poly’s Preschool Learning Lab to design a children’s garden planting plan and interviewed preschool children on their intended use of playground spaces. Lastly, a case study in historic planting design afforded students a visit to Hearst Castle.
