LA 431-CAD for Construction Documents: Winter 2023 + Fall 2024 + Winter 2025 + Summer 2025

LA 431: CAD and Digital Media Communications

Lessons which teach AutoCAD are all-encompassing. Students learn the full range of program commands and capabilities including draw and modify functions, layers and layer properties (line weights, types), plot styles, annotations (dimensions, text, and leaders), and annotation and viewport scales. CAD skills are then applied to create construction documents.

Exercise Example 1: for real world application, students drew a double-aisle parking lot according to San Luis Obispo city standards and created WBlock plant symbols to place in their design. A section through a permeable paver stall area was drafted to show its subsurface function and connection to the asphalt aisle.

Exercise Example 2: for real world application, students designed planting plans after learning conventional symbol, plant grouping, and labeling representation. A plant schedule accompanies their plan. In all projects, students created their own north arrows, scales, title blocks, and plant symbols.
